Meet Rebecca

Rebecca Cannaday is a Professional Dancer, Teacher, Choreographer, and Adjudicator from Chesapeake, Virginia that now resides in New York City. Throughout High School she had the opportunity to be a part of Denise Wall’s pre-professional dance company and train with and perform choreography from many well-known professionals including Emmy Award winning and nominated choreographers such as Travis Wall and Anthony Morigerato. Since then, she has been working as a Professional Dancer in New York City with a focus in Tap Dance since 2016. She is also a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Old Dominion University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Marketing. She graduated as Top Marketing Graduate of her class in 2021. Dancer and Performer

Rebecca Cannaday is currently in three Professional Tap companies that are based out of Manhattan and travel around the country for various performances including CHRProject directed by Charles Renato where she is Dance Captain, ProjectConvergence directed by Vikas Arun and Apoorva Natarajan, and #Taplife directed by Anthony LoCascio where she is also Dance Captain and Choreographer for the company. Some of her most memorable performances have been for BuzzFeed, Spotify, JetBlue, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Chicago Human Rhythm Project’s “JUBA” in “Virtuoso” choreographed and directed by Charles Renato, the Battery Park Dance Festival, the American Tap Dance Foundation’s “Rhythm in Motion” where she has danced for numerous tap dance legends including the late Broadway star Dexter Jones, “In the Groove” choreographed and directed by Dormeshia Sumbry, TAPN2TAP at RIFF Dallas, and “Gotta Dance” at the Ted Shawn Theatre at Jacob’s Pillow after attending the Professional School Program for Tap Dance under the close direction of Michelle Dorrance and Dormeshia Sumbry. She was 1 of 25 dancers in the world chosen to attend the Jacob’s Pillow Tap Program in 2019.

Teacher and Choreographer

As a teacher and choreographer, Rebecca has presented work in various locations around the NYC area including at “Something’s Afoot”, produced by the American Tap Dance Foundation, and at the highly esteemed Inside/Out Stage at Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, MA. Rebecca is on the tap faculty at Broadway Dance Center and at the Joffrey Ballet School in Manhattan, NY. She has also been a guest artist/teacher at the Metropolitan School of the Arts in Washington D.C, for the Montana Dance Arts Association, the Maine Dance Teachers Club, and at Southern Illinois University in the Theatre and Dance Program. She continues to share her love for dance through teaching classes and workshops all around the Tri-State Area and along the East Coast as well as at various festivals such as the Woodshed Experience in North Carolina, Swingin’ Into Summer Tap Festival, and RIFF Dallas.

Adjudicator and Judge

Rebecca loves to share her love and passion for dance through judging and adjudicating. She uses her well rounded extensive training in every genre of dance to provide constructive feedback to the dancers she gets to connect with. She also has certification in Tap, Jazz, and Ballet from Dance Masters of America. She has previously worked for or is currently working for several dance competitions including Headliners Dance Competition, VIP Dance Competition, Beyond the Stars, Breakout, and has been a guest judge for 24Seven dance convention and competition.
